Honoring the Life of Hazel Greer Williams: A Trailblazer and Hero

It is with deep respect and admiration that we share the passing of Hazel Greer Williams, a true pioneer and American hero.

Hazel was one of the first Black twin sisters to join the U.S. military, enlisting in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942 and serving with the historic 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II. Her bravery, alongside her twin sister Mazel Greer, helped lay the foundation for the future of women in the armed forces.

Beyond her military service, Hazel built a remarkable career at Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., where she worked for 40 years before retiring in 1993. Her life was a testament to resilience, grit, and unwavering love for her family and country.

In 2018, Hazel was honored at the 152nd Buffalo Soldiers Anniversary, a moment that highlighted her indelible contribution to history. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and inspiration for future generations.

Hazel’s story is featured in Tyler Perry’s movie about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, now streaming on Nexflex and in theaters.

Please join us in celebrating the life of this incredible woman. Her strength, courage, and faith will continue to inspire us all.
